The 3rd Dimension
Out of the murk and mystery came the Creature from the Black Lagoon. In the early 1980s a local T.V. station aired a “Creature Feature” special that they had hyped up for months: The Creature from the Black Lagoon in– THE 3RD DIMENSION. All you had to do was send in a self-addressed envelope with a request for the number of glasses you wanted. Next to receiving my Atari 2600, this freaky 3-D airing event was like getting a high-five from Mr. T himself. When the night of the airing finally arrived, the stars had aligned. We had the 3D glasses, the necessary fuels (soda and chips), and at last, the 3rd dimension was upon us. After turning the nobs and twisting the rabbit-eared antenna, the brown-paneled Zenith T.V. was perfectly tuned in. For the next 90 minutes I squinted through some cheap 3-D glasses at a blurry-ass screen. To be honest, the only thing I actually got out of those excruciating 90 minutes was a caffeine high and a thumping headache. The event was over hyped and I couldn’t help but be disappointed. With that being said, the memories of this time in my life are sweet ones. So this weeks TeeGravy design is my salute to that blurry/murky masterpiece.
